Widespread initiative engaged government and private sector in awareness lectures and results in around 1,300 screenings
The ‘Screen For Life’, Qatar’s National Breast and Bowel Cancer Screening program, has completed an extremely successful month-long campaign ‘October Means Breast Cancer Screening’, its largest awareness campaign to date, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In line with the goal to extend its message and increase awareness of the benefits of early detection through screening and potentially saving lives, the ‘Screen For Life’ team delivered a total of 15 awareness lectures across Qatar to educate people on the ‘Screen For Life’ program and encourage eligible women to book a free screening at one of ‘Screen For Life’ dedicated screening facilities at Al Wakra, Leabaib and Rawdat Al Khail Health Centers.
‘Screen For Life’ partnered with more than 30 government and private sector entities to raise awareness levels amongst the country’s workforce and the Program’s dedicated mobile screening unit visited around 10 government departments and private sector companies offering complimentary mammograms to more than 150 eligible employees, who were happy to receive the service at their workplace and save time and effort.
The concerted efforts of the team and the support of the large number of government and private sector entities resulted in more than 850 women registering for screening and around 1,300 women undergoing a mammogram during the campaign in the 3 screening suites and onboard the mobile unit.
“The hard work and dedication of the ‘Screen For Life’ team has been rewarded with the great success of this extensive campaign to further raise awareness of the ‘Screen For Life’ program and the benefits of early detection through screening,” said Dr. Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager, PHCC.
“Their desire to spread the message and the appetite from the public to learn more contributed to the overwhelming success. In addition, the high level of support shown by both the government and private sectors has helped greatly and we appreciate the commitment of all those who join ‘Screen For Life’ throughout this initiative. We look forward to working with them further as we continue on our mission.”
The ‘October Means Breast Cancer Screening’ campaign is a key addition to ‘Screen For Life’ efforts to drive cancer awareness among Qatari citizens and residents, led by the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC).
