The Primary Health Care Cooperation marks the closure of The International Bowel Cancer Awareness Month with successful bowel cancer screening campaign

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has completed a successful month-long awareness campaign across Qatar to highlight the importance of bowel cancer screening.

The PHCC’s Breast and Bowel Cancer Screening Program ‘Screen For Life’ implemented an array of initiatives to educate the public about the benefits of early detection through screening and encourage eligible men and women to book a screening appointment.

The month-long awareness drive included a targeted messaging campaign across the national media, including press, radio and outdoor commercials. The campaign was also accompanied by an in-mall activation scheme in 3 major shopping malls in Qatar, during which the ‘Screen For Life’ team increased its engagement with the public by distributing educational material to shoppers and taking questions on bowel cancer screening, and offering on-site registration for screening appointments.

In addition, the ‘Screen For Life’ team took part in a community outreach program, addressing hundreds of students across schools and colleges, which resulted in positive engagement with the youth population who can influence their parents and relatives in the target age group to take a positive approach towards their health. ‘Screen For Life’ enjoyed further success in its outreach program by  having a presence in  the Ladies Club at Aspire Zone Foundation, resulting in dozens of screening appointments, while corporations such as the Qatar Development Bank also opened its doors to the ‘Screen For Life’ team who addressed an awareness lecture to the employees.

“Spreading awareness of the benefits of bowel cancer screening is a hugely important element of our work and it is our mission to spread the message to as wide an audience as possible. Our efforts during the International Bowel Cancer Awareness Month highlighted how we are seeking to grasp every opportunity to spread our message,” Dr. Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager, PHCC, said.

The campaign was one of a number of initiatives by ‘Screen for Life’ that will run throughout the year to continue raising awareness about breast and bowel  cancer screening throughout a wide spectrum of Qatar society.
