“Screen For Life” Program Joins Global November Campaign to Raise Health Awareness Across Qatar

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), leader of the National Breast and Bowel Screening Program, ‘Screen for Life’, has joined the global November health awareness campaign (Movember), supporting its cancer screening efforts in Qatar.

Following October’s Breast Cancer Awareness, PHCC will be focusing on the bowel cancer screening throughout the month of November targeting Qatar’s female and male eligible population and encouraging bowel screening.

“Bowel cancer remains one of the two leading forms of cancers threatening the health of Qatar’s population and it is important for us to utilize global campaigns such as Movember to further raise awareness and reiterate the importance of undergoing bowel screening,” Dr. Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager, PHCC, said.

“The Screen For Life” program has made considerable efforts in reaching the local community and we are keen to build on this to increase the effectiveness of our messaging. We are dedicated to providing the highest in medical care standards and health services for Qatar’s citizens and through such initiatives we are able to continue these efforts.”

According to the American Cancer Society, the survival rate from bowel cancer rises to 90 percent when caught at an early stage.

PHCC encourages those aged between 50 and 74, who do not present any related symptoms, to undertake bowel cancer screening on an annual basis.

Men, and women, should call PHCC’s dedicated call center number, 800 1112, to arrange for an appointment in advance to avoid waiting times.
