The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is firmly determined to reach out to a wider audience and significantly increase the level of knowledge and awareness among the public in Qatar about bowel cancer and the life-saving benefits of bowel cancer screening.
Accordingly, as part of several activities lined up for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month this March, PHCC has set its sights on high footfall places such as popular shopping malls in the country in order to effectively implement an information dissemination campaign that will get people to book their appointments for bowel cancer screening at the soonest possible time.
By partnering with the Landmark Mall and the Villaggio Mall, PHCC has set up Activation Booths inside these malls for people to access valuable information about bowel cancer. At the same time, specialized liaison staff was on hand to pro-actively interact with the public and highlight the urgency and importance of bowel cancer screening, especially among men and women, aged 50 years and older, with no symptoms.
A vital component of the ‘Screen for Life’ program and the fight against bowel cancer is a well-informed public. To enable us to win this battle and save more lives, we must first succeed in getting all the necessary information to people about this deadly disease. More importantly, the public must be made well aware of the fact that early detection of the disease, through bowel cancer screening, greatly increases the chances of its successful treatment.
PHCC is currently delivering bowel cancer screening services at its Breast & Bowel Screening Center at Al Wakra Health Center. This is being conducted through Fecal Immunochemical Test or FIT. As only patients with appointments will be attended to, PHCC strongly advises both men and women, especially those belonging to the target age group, to first book their appointments by contacting the 800 1112 Cancer Screening Call Center.
