To further drum up its call for both men and women in Qatar aged 50 years and older, with no symptoms, to submit themselves for bowel cancer screening, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is organizing the ‘Do the FIT’ walk event at Katara Cultural Village.
‘Do the FIT’ walk will be conducted from 9:00 am up to 1:00 pm on Saturday, 12 March 2016 and is supported by Katara Cultural Village as Cultural Partner. It is among several activities lined up by PHCC in March as part of the worldwide commemoration of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.
Open to the public, the walk event is expected to attract hundreds of participants from all ages and various sectors who wish to actively involve themselves in raising awareness about bowel cancer and the life-saving benefits of bowel cancer screening to their families, loved ones, friends, neighbors, colleagues and the community.
Prior to joining the walk, a registration process will be conducted on site. As a fun event, participants will be given a number for a chance to win one of 10 prizes to be raffled off at the end of the event.
Blue shirts will also be given away to the first 100 people who will arrive at the venue. Blue bracelets, ribbons and scarves will also be distributed to all participants.
When caught at an early stage, studies made by the Colon Cancer Alliance indicate a 90% survival rate from the disease.
