The Primary Health Care Corporation takes its Breast Cancer Awareness campaign to Qatar’s shoppers

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is leading a month long campaign across Qatar’s leading malls in recognition of the international Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As part of its goal to reach a wider audience and significantly increasing the level of knowledge and awareness among Qatari population about breast cancer, PHCC will install Activation Booths at four of Qatar’s most popular malls during the month of October, with the intention to engage with shoppers at the high footfall locations.

During the first two weeks of the month a team of PHCC’s specialized liaison staff will be present at both Ezdan Mall and Gulf Mall. For the remaining two weeks, 16-31 October, PHCC educational teams will be located at Landmark Mall and Villaggio Mall.

“Raising awareness about breast cancer screening is an incredibly important aspect of our team’s work. By installing Activation Booths across Qatar’s most popular malls we are ensuring that knowledge and awareness about the benefits of early screening is reaching a greater number of people,” Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager, PHCC, said.

A number of specialized liaison staff will be available for visitors to speak to at each of PHCC’s Activation Booths, offering guidance and advice on the right process of screening. They will also be on-hand to raise awareness of available facilities across Qatar and will be highlighting the importance of screening. Visitors can also register to be called by PHCC’s Cancer Screening call center to make a screening appointment if they are women aged 45 years or older.

In addition to the Activation Booth, PHCC will be showcasing its Mobile Breast Screening Unit that was inaugurated earlier this year. The unit, the first of its kind in Qatar, will initially focus on offering Mammography. During October, visitors will be able to find out more about the mobile unit and its capabilities while it travels between the mall locations.

“We are undergoing a number of initiatives to spread awareness throughout Qatar and by allowing people to experience the Mobile Mammogram Screening Unit alongside our Activation Booths, we expect to reach a significant number of people,” Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha noted.

“Our activities during Breast Cancer Awareness Month would not have been possible without the support of the malls in which we are exhibiting at. By working together we are engaging with an important sector of the community.
