Doha, Qatar – May 15, 2016: The Public Health Care Corporation (PHCC) through the Breast & Bowel Cancer Screening Program recently dedicated May 12th in honour of the International Nurses Day.
The International Nurses Day featured a Health Clinic at Qatar University where the Breast & Bowel Screening Program raised awareness among students and parents about the importance of early screening. Students were also invited to be volunteers and be part of the Cancer screening team for any future events.
Additionally, through the Breast & Bowel Cancer Screening Program lectures were held for Nurses at Al Wakra and Leabaib Health Centers to brief them on the importance of early screening and the process of getting screened.
“Nurses are on the frontlines of administering, evaluating and assessing treatment.
As part of their role they understand the complexities and implications of an illness whilst communicating with doctors. Moreover, nurses provide invaluable emotional support, offering counsel to the patient and their families. We cannot thank them enough for their skills in providing comfort and stability,” said Mariam Ali Abdulmalik, M.D., Managing Director of PHCC.
True to its continuous efforts at raising awareness about breast and bowel cancer and the life-saving benefits of early screening, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has been working ceaselessly with the launch of new initiatives coupled with events and activities to reach out to a wider audience.
Working under the motto of ‘Screen for Life’, the PHCC works in tandem with Qatar’s National Cancer Program in accordance with the country’s National Health Strategy 2011-2016. The core objective of ‘Screen for Life’ is to focus on early detection by encouraging women aged 45 years or older with no symptoms to receive breast cancer screening and both men and women aged 50 years or older with no symptoms to receive bowel cancer screening.
